Stress reaction on the skin

Life nowadays can be pretty stressful. Managing different aspects of everyday life can be exhausting which can lead to some health problems either mentally or physically. Stress can cause different problems that can affect the quality of our lives. Different skin reactions are a very common stress reaction. Skin reactions caused by aging and stress increase the possibility for wrinkles.

The main problem lies in the way that stress affects our body – the more stressful you feel, the more sensitive and reactive your skin feels. Stress can stimulate the production of certain hormones like cortisol which sends signals to the glands in your skin to produce more oils. The more oily skin you have, the more chances you have to break out or have other different skin problems.

Of course, stress is not the main cause of skin problems. People that are not stressed in life can still have some skin problems. Unfortunately, stress will work in a way that will make different skin problems even worse than they already are. For example, if you have psoriasis, rosacea or eczema, stress can make it worse and aggravate it. This can seem to be a vicious circle – some people stress about the way their skin looks which triggers more skin problems and so on. The important thing is to take good care of your skin, maybe change some steps of everyday skin routine in order to adjust it to the current problems.

Acne, breakouts and aggravated skin problems are not only skin stress reactions. Stress can also cause different types of skin rashes or fever blisters.

Some experts even say that stress can cause premature skin aging with the wrinkles appearing at the wrinkle prone areas – around your eyes, on your forehead, and around your mouth.

Although it’s very hard to avoid stress in today’s way of life, it’s not impossible to reduce it a bit. Make sure to know your boundaries, to exercise regularly which will help in getting rid of the negative energy, to take time for yourself and your needs and get enough sleep. Inf stress is too much to handle on your own, you can always talk to someone such as your friends, family members or a professional therapist.
